MANDY BROWNLEE

I remember being in high school, dreaming about becoming an art teacher, but I didn't feel that path was right for me at the time. My college major was undecided until my sophomore year at The W when I was urged to choose a career path. I chose graphic design, which proved to be much more challenging after the economic decline in 2008. Even living in Florida where there are more jobs and opportunities for growth, I struggled to find a suitable job. In 2015, my family and I moved back home to MS to be closer to family.
I stayed home with my children for almost four years. In 2018, I decided to get back to work and began my teaching journey at Brandon High School. With no experience or training, my first year was tough. Over time, I learned how to manage my classroom and my students. I have since grown as a teacher and as an artist, feeling more accomplished and appreciated than I ever did as a graphic designer. In 2022, I transferred to my former high school, Northwest Rankin. I have come full circle and I am happy to be home again.
